Wade turns 18 today and was scheduled to be transferred to an adult facility. Wade was transferred to the adult facility after the attempt.
The Marin County sheriff's office said staff heard noise outside the facility around 4:45 a.m.; someone with a sledgehammer and bolt cutters made an attempt to break into the facility; the suspect or suspects were unable to enter and ran off when they heard staff.
The sheriff's office launched an immediate search of the area with the help of San Rafael police, Novato police and the CHP. The search was called off later in the morning.
The facility houses about twenty youths awaiting trial on a variety of offenses. All juvenile hall staff was not harmed in the incident. All inmates are safe and accounted for.
