Stanford has developed a robotic race car named "Shelley." The university loaded a video of the car on YouTube that shows the self-driving Audi TTS reaching 120 mph on a recent track test.

Shelley has software that tells her when to brake, how tight to take the turns, and when to punch the gas. The technology may one day lead to independent cars that safely drive you on public roads.

This week two professional drivers will have their brain activity monitored during a race. Researchers say that information could help Shelley go even faster.
