State takes blame for crippling DMV outage

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

Intially, the glitch that shut down the system for several hours was blamed on AT&T and Verizon. But it was later discovered that a router at DMV headquarters caused the problem.

At the same time, another router at the state failed, crippling the network that links libraries, child welfare services, emergency medical services and dozens of other departments across the state.

The state insists the two router failures were not connected to the multi-million dollar revamp from a few years back.
