Burke is getting ready for dance rehearsals for the upcoming season, but she took time out earlier this year to meet with those who are part of the project between the American DanceWheels Foundation and the Palo Alto Veterans Administration. The VA is doing research on the therapeutic effects of the wheelchair dance program. Burke sent us some video of the program and participants.
"One of the biggest things I got out of the program, was it helped my own depression. I noticed just doing the physical work of dance, it also helped my breathing, and it gave me some sore muscles at the end of the dance," said Steven Scott, a wheelchair dancer.
The Cheryl Burke Dance Studio in Mountain View is hosting the wheelchair dance competition this Friday, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Dancing With the Stars' new season starts Sept. 24th, at 8 p.m. on ABC7.
