Armstrong emailed San Rafael weeks before death

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.

11-year old Max Boddington won a local essay contest with a poignant piece about his dream of meeting Armstrong. Max says when he looks at the moon, he thinks about whether his birth parents, both dead, are watching him.

His adoptive mother sent the essay to the first man to walk on the moon and Armstrong replied just three weeks before his death. Armstrong's email said, "Tell Max I send him my very best wishes for good luck and success."

Max tells the Marin Independent Journal he's considering becoming an astronaut or an engineer.
