In Pakistan Friday, violent protests over an anti-Muslim film left at least 17 people dead and more than 100 wounded across the country.

Protestors clashed with police in several major cities, even though Friday was a government declared holiday designed to allow peaceful demonstrations. Police fired tear gas and live ammunition at thousands of demonstrators who threw rocks and set fire to buildings.

Officials say the deadliest violence occurred in Karachi, where 12 people were killed and more than 80 were wounded. A police officer and a driver for a television network are among those killed.
