A jail lockdown, prompted by two tuberculosis cases at the San Mateo County Women's Correctional Center, has been lifted.

Authorities locked down a section of the Redwood City facility to prevent a possible spread of the illness. Two inmates were diagnosed with active cases of TB on Tuesday.

The sheriff's office says the situation was made more threatening by overcrowded conditions. The women who were infected were isolated and taken to an outside medical facility for treatment.
