Nurses at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital are set to take a vote on whether to stage a three-day walkout when their contract expires next month.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports: The Staff Nurse's Association has warned hospital management that a strike could begin October 2 and end October 5.

660 nurses represented by the union face possible pay and benefit cuts under the hospital's new contract proposal.

A hospital spokesman says the cuts in night pay and pension benefits are not out of the realm of what other employers are doing.

The union seeks a 5 percent wage increases to keep pace with what other Bay Area hospitals pay nurses.
