Antioch is upping the ante when it comes to public safety. The city council has approved the hiring of at least six non-sworn community service officers to beef up the police force.

They'll handle duties like transporting people to jail, booking and fingerprinting - freeing up sworn officers to fight crime. The positions pay $87,000 a year and will be paid from the city's reserve funds. Antioch is also working to fill 13 vacant officer positions.
