Livermore native survives deadly avalanche

MOUNT MANASLU, Nepal

It happened Sunday morning at more than 22,000 feet on Mount Manaslu in Nepal. Plake is a three time world champion freestyle skier based in Tahoe. He says he was reading his bible when the avalanche struck, "I was reading Samuel, first Samuel, just for the sake of reading and the tent began to shake, we thought it was the wind and in fact it was the avalanche."

About two dozen climbers were sleeping when their camp was swept away by the avalanche. Three of them are still missing and presumed dead.
