Plane wreckage found near Half Moon Bay Airport

HALF MOON BAY, Calif.

A ground-based search crew found the wreckage around noon Tuesday about 400 yards west of the airport. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Department reported the pilot was killed in the crash

The fixed wing aircraft was a single-engine Aeropro CZ A40. It left Half Moon Bay Monday morning at 5:50 a.m. and was scheduled for a fuel stop in Apple Valley, California. Its final destination was a regional airport in Tuscon, Arizona.

The plane came to the attention of authorities after it was reported missing by the pilot's wife. She became concerned when he didn't show up for the scheduled fuel stop.
