Firefighter injured in two-alarm fire in commercial building

RICHMOND

The fire on the 1400 block of McDonald Avenue was reported around 8 p.m., according to Battalion Chief Merlin Turner.

The commercial building, which includes a barbershop, meeting hall and other businesses, was fully involved in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene, Turner said.

The fire appears to have started at the rear of the building and then spread to several businesses inside.

Firefighters remained on the scene as of around 9:30 p.m., checking for hot spots and mopping up.

One firefighter suffered a back injury and was taken to the hospital, Turner said.

There were no occupants in the building at the time of the fire.
