Santa Cruz police say the amount of fatal collisions in the County is rising because some motorists are high while they drive.

The CHP says there have been eight fatal collisions in the County this year. Five of them involved drivers high on marijuana.

In November, a traffic safety survey revealed that almost twice as many people were caught driving under the influence of drugs rather than alcohol in nine California cities on Friday and Saturday nights last summer.
