The holidays got a little brighter for the kids of a Japanese town ravaged by the deadly 2011 earthquake and tsunami.

Santa Claus paid the kids in Ishinomaki an early visit. He arrived by helicopter, landing at an elementary schoolyard.

A volunteer group organized the visit as a way to cheer up children in areas affected by the tsunami.

Santa told the children that he flew in from the North Pole and didn't bring the reindeer because they needed to rest up for Christmas Eve.
