Home Depot says it expects sales to be good as the weather warms up and people start their home improvement projects.
The retailer traditionally adds to its workforce every spring. But this year the chain is adding 10,000 more jobs than last year.
The recovery of the housing market is credited with boosting sales at home improvement stores nationwide.
The jobs are only temporary, but Home Depot says some stay on and become permanent employees.
In fact, rival Lowe's announced earlier it was adding 9,000 permanent jobs and 45,000 temporary ones.
