CHP officer in Sacramento saves girl, young mother

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

Officer Rick Murray used his EMT skills to save two lives in the past two months.

In February the motorcycle officer in Sacramento helped dislodge an object stuck in the throat of a small child. A few weeks later, he revived a woman who had stopped breathing after a minor car accident.

"Not everybody knows what to do," Officer Murray said. "And that stops a lot of people from acting. But almost everybody wants to act, so I would suggest somebody taking a CPR class just so they know what to do, because it could be their family that needs it."

Murray is an 18-year veteran of the CHP. He says his EMT training has never been more important than in the last two months.
