The CHP has been patrolling Oakland two days a week since last November. The contract was set to expire Friday, but the CHP and the city have reached a tentative agreement to continue the patrols and expand them to four days a week.
The city was getting help from the Alameda County Sheriff's Office, but those patrols ended Saturday when the contract expired and the two agencies couldn't agree on terms of another one.
City officials didn't disclose the cost or length of the CHP extension. The city council will vote on the deal at its May 7 meeting.
