The equipment failure occurred around 3:19 p.m. near 39 Bertha Lane, causing an electrical flash, PG&E spokeswoman Jana Morris said. The flash injured an employee, damaged equipment and caused a power outage affecting the surrounding area.
The employee sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The power outage initially affected around 2600 customers, but that number is now down to less than 50, Morris said. PG&E hopes to have power restored for the remaining customers by midnight.
Repair crews remain on scene.
