Three peregrine falcon chicks recently hatched atop San Jose City Hall now have names thanks to some San Jose school children. All three are males and should be learning to fly soon.

A contest was held to name the fledglings and the winners have been chosen.

"Comet" was nominated by Dakota, a first-grader at Hayes Elementary School. "Orion" was nominated by Nathaniel, a third-grader at Willow Glen Elementary. And, "Striker" was nominated by Lauren and Kathleen, two fourth-graders at Holly Oak.

Striker may have actually already tried to fly. He was found Sunday on the ground on Fifth Street, but he's OK and back home.
