NYC surpasses SF for nation's highest rent

SAN FRANCISCO

The New York Post is reporting that rents in the Big Apple have skyrocketed. The average monthly apartment rent is now more than $3,000 for the first time.

In second-place, San Francisco isn't even close at nearly $2,000 a month.

In contrast, the average national apartment rent is a little over $1,000, or about one-third the New York average.

That's according to Reis Incorporated, a real estate research firm
