A group called "Hack Marriage" is taking to bookstores and libraries to change the definition of marriage. They say dictionaries are holding back progress by defining marriage as only between a man and a woman.
Members of the group, who did not want to be identified, are updating entries with stickers that read "the union between two people".
"To us it's making more people in our community welcome and comfortable so to us it's an obvious choice," said
"Some dictionaries have a pretty generic gender-neutral definition of marriage, some don't, but we do hope that our patrons respect the collection," said Karen Strauss from the San Francisco Public Library.
Librarians point out, it is a crime to deface public library books.
