A Sausalito Marine Mammal Center crew was training in Monterey when they came across an adult male sea lion under the Monterey Wharf, with a rubber band around its neck.
During a 90-minute rescue, they captured him and pulled him onto a boat. They nicknamed him "HC."
Back in Sausalito, veterinarians cut the band off.
After a couple of days of recovery, they released the sea lion back into the ocean on Wednesday.
