Hayward city workers begin three day strike

HAYWARD, Calif.

Representatives of SEIU 1021 said that Hayward city employees began the strike at Hayward City Hall at 6 a.m. in response to the city's refusal to bargain with SEIU 1021.

SEIU 1021 members will continue to provide essential services such as 911 dispatch, animal control and services at the wastewater treatment plant, according to union representatives.

Picket lines and a labor rally will be held at 12 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. today at Hayward City Hall, according to union representatives.

Additional rallies are planned through Thursday, union representatives said.
