Show topic: Puberty

BEYOND THE HEADLINES
August 18, 2013
Puberty
Hosted by ABC7's Cheryl Jennings

In this week's episode of "Beyond the Headlines," we focus on puberty and the physical changes young girls and boys go through, as well as the issues faced by transgender children. We discuss what happens to the body as it changes, the emotions adolescents face and how to talk to kids about puberty.

Research shows that more girls are entering puberty earlier in life, even as early as seven years old and that there may be a connection to breast cancer later in life. We'll hear from experts in psychiatry and endocrinology on these alarming statistics, as well as a teenager who has created a program to ease the woes of young adolescents facing puberty. Additionally, we will learn about an important on-going investigative study on early puberty and the participants involved.
