Investigators say police got a call shortly after midnight from a man saying he wanted to hurt himself. He didn't give a location, but officers found him on 12th Street, near Santa Clara Street, by using cell phone towers.
The unidentified man was holding a knife to his chest. A crisis intervention officer talked to him for about four hours, before the man was finally taken into custody.
He will be brought to a hospital for a 72 hour psychiatric hold. Police say at no time did he threaten officers.
