Kevin San was heading to school Friday morning when another car slammed into his family's minivan.
We learned from San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr that the driver has been booked with vehicular manslaughter, not involving drugs or alcohol, with gross negligence.
On Sunday afternoon, about 20 of San's friends came to the corner of Gough and Pine streets where he died to pay their respects.
The group posted messages, left flowers, and lit more candles.
San was a student at Abraham Lincoln High School and a member of the Junior ROTC Drum Corps.
His friends say that group canceled their practice Saturday because of his death.
So his friends, many of them fellow corps members, decided to come here to honor him.
"He would always have a smile on his face," friend Jason Bolano said. "In a gloomy day, he would just maybe give a laugh."
San was killed when police say a speeding Mercedes SUV slammed into the minivan he was in.
His mother and sister were seriously injured, as were three other people who were in a different vehicle.
The driver of the speeding SUV suffered minor injuries. Police tell us she was taken to the hospital Friday morning but was then medically released. She was booked into San Francisco County Jail later in the day.
Along with facing vehicular manslaughter charges, she's also been cited for several vehicle code violations.
