Hemp contains trace amounts of THC, the active component in cannabis.
Farmers could grow it for the sale of seed, oil and fiber, which is something already legal in nine other states, if the federal government lifts its hemp cultivation ban.
This could be an agricultural windfall since, half a billion dollars worth of hemp products were sold last year.
All of that raw hemp was imported.
