Evacuation lifted at Richmond federal building

An evacuation at the federal building in Richmond has been lifted.

The building is located on Nevin Avenue at 12th Street near the Richmond BART station.

Workers were forced to go outside and wait while authorities investigate a package that they'd initially said had wires in it.

These workers are some of the federal workers who've been deemed essential. They are still working despite the government shutdown. They protested there Thursday.

Officials later determined that the suspicious package was a box with flashlights.

The evacuation notice was lifted at about 1:30 p.m.
