The widow of a California Highway Patrol officer killed in the line of duty is teaming up with an organ donor registry to launch a special license plate.

Officer Kenyon Youngstrom was shot during a traffic stop on Interstate 680 near Alamo in September of last year. Youngstrom donated his organs, helping save four lives.

Thursday in Sacramento, his wife Karen threw her support behind pink dot specialty license plates, which signify the stickers organ donors put on their driver licenses.

Proceeds from the plates will benefit the Donate Life California organ and tissue registry.
