'Pillowcase rapist' will be sent to live in SoCal

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, Calif.

Christopher Hubbart, known as the "pillowcase rapist," will be released from Coalinga State Hospital and sent to live in a single-family house in Los Angeles County where he was born and raised.

The 62-year-old is classified by the state as a sexually violent predator and will be required to wear an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet.

Hubbart admitted to raping nearly 40 women across Southern California and the Bay Area between 1971 and 1982. Police say the often used a pillowcase to quiet the screams of his victims.

A public hearing is scheduled for Dec. 4 in San Jose to allow the public to express its concerns. Santa Clara County Deputy District Attorney Vonda Tracey says strong opposition from the public could prompt the judge to reconsider his decision.
