Alameda County Sheriff's officials announced on Tuesday that Stephen Rudiger's ex-wife, 58-year-old Cheryl Ann Drace-Ervin, and her new husband, 50-year-old William Joseph Devincenzi , were in custody in connection with Rudiger's 1990 slaying. They were arrested last week. According to jail records, they were due to appear in court on Tuesday to enter a plea.
Authorities say Drace-Ervin and Rudiger were sharing a home in Castro Valley at the time of the slaying though they were divorced, and Drace-Ervin and her new husband, Devincenzi, killed Rudiger for financial gain.
Rudiger's body was discovered on the side of a road in December 1990.
Sheriff's officials tell the Contra Costa Times that DNA evidence helped lead to the arrests.
