Holiday shoppers scrambling on 'Manic Monday'

SAN FRANCISCO

Just two days are left in the shortest Christmas shopping season in 11 years.

Stores are offering deeper discounts than they did on Black Friday and many retailers like Macy, Kohls,' and Toys "R" Us are open 24 hours to attract last-minute buyers.

For some retailers, the holidays make up 40 percent of their annual sales.

The U.S. Department of Commerce reported Monday that consumer spending rose a half-percent in November -- the healthiest showing since June.
