Fundraiser for Fremont mother struck, killed by car on NYE

FREMONT, Calif.

Ashley Capuchin was holding her 3-month-old son and was with a 17-year-old girl when she was struck by a car while walking west across Paseo Padre Parkway at Madre Avenue around 9:55 p.m., Fremont police said.

All three were taken to a hospital where Capuchin died.

Fremont police Sgt. Greg Crandall said this morning her infant son is still at a hospital and in critical condition.

The 17-year-old girl was treated for injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

The driver in the crash, a 64-year-old man, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. He is not suspected of DUI, police said.

An online fundraiser has been set up by friends through Give Forward to collect funds for Capuchin's funeral and other burial costs.

As of Sunday afternoon, more than $9,000 had been raised. Friends and family hope to reach their $10,000 goal within the next week. The online fundraiser is available at https://www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/qqq3/ashley-capuchin-memorial-fund.

According to Capuchin's Facebook page she is from Newark.
