California condor released into wild from Big Sur sanctuary

California condor number 631 carefully left the pen at Big Sur shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

The 3-year-old male condor thought about things for a while before taking off.

California condors were extinct in 1987, but conservationists brought them back through captive breeding.

There are now 410 living condors.
