Efren Carillo admits he went to a neighbor's home wearing just his underwear and sox, looking for sex, but says he's not a Peeping Tom.
By late Friday afternoon, there was still no verdict. The jury began deliberating at 9 a.m. It appeared there would be a verdict at 1:30 p.m., then one juror sent a note to the judge saying he or she wanted to change his verdict. So they're still at it. They're still deadlocked 11-1.
The supervisor has not contested that on last July 13th, he entered the yard of a neighbor identified only as Jane Doe. It was 3:30 a.m. and he was dressed only in his underwear. He is accused of peeking into her apartment -- a charge the supervisor denies.
It's a case that has fascinated the community. Eferen Carrillo was seen as a rising star in California politics. Now, he has an image problem among constituents. Most think he should have resigned.
"Because I think he should answer clearly about what he has done and been lees circuitous about the way he's handled this thing," said Dennis Delee, a Sonoma County resident.
"I think when you have a position that is public, or whether you work in a church, I think you have a higher calling to have better moral behavior," said Kathy Edwards, a Sonoma County resident.
The jury could find the defendant guilty of peeking, which carries a maximum six month jail sentence. Or attempted peeking could mean three months.
