DARBY BOROUGH, Pa. -- A Delaware County man and woman have been charged with child endangerment following an attack on their newborn by a trio of pet ferrets.

Court documents indicate that 42-year-old Burnie Fraim and 24-year-old Jessica Benales of Darby each face five counts of endangering the welfare of children.

Authorities say the 1-month-old girl was left downstairs in her car seat where she was attacked by the pets. Officials said the animals chewed off the baby's nose and part of her cheek and lip.

Court documents indicate that the defendants have asked for representation by the county public defender's office, which rang unanswered Monday night.
