SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Bay Bridge commuters are stuck footing the bill for mistakes made by Caltrans during construction of the new eastern span of the bridge, according to a new report.
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that Caltrans decided to scrap a drainage feature on the bridge, leading to hundreds of rain water leaks that threaten to corrode the structure.
The bill totals $1.4 million and counting.
The project's chief engineer says plans are now in place to fix the problem.
