7 On Your Side helps couple contact company that damaged their home
Some pest control work done on a Hayward home turned into a long ordeal for a Bay Area family.

HAYWARD, Calif. (KGO) -- Some pest control work done on a Hayward home turned into a long ordeal for a Bay Area family.

What started out as a minor issue turned into a much bigger one when the homeowners say the company they had been working with stopped returning their calls.

That's when 7 On Your Side stepped in to help.

Nick Mina recalls pulling into his driveway in Hayward. He and his wife noticed that something wasn't right.

Nick's wife Nilda saw a roof tile in the driveway and immediately looked up.

"Well, it was broken in several places. The one that's on the edge," Nilda said.

She wasn't too concerned. She called Terminix, who had just completed fumigating her home.

Nilda assumed Terminix would agree to fix the damage since they had just been up on the roof to remove the tenting.

Terminix agreed to send an inspector, but the Minas say no one ever got back to them with the results of that inspection.

"Well, it was frustrating. I really got upset. How come they are ignoring me?" Nilda asked herself.

Things became more urgent when her husband, while approaching the house in his car, noticed even more damage.

"Oh, look there. Look at the damage on our roof," Nick said.

In all, more than 60 tiles were missing. With winter fast approaching, the Minas felt pressed for time.

"Because they said it might rain and so if I did not fix it, then if it rains I will damage my roof," Nilda said.

The Minas went ahead and fixed the roof, sending a receipt for the repairs along with photos of the damage to Terminix.

"We waited another month. There was no response. Then my husband said, 'Let's try 7 On Your Side,'" Nilda said.

7 On Your Side contacted Terminix and it phoned the Minas to apologize.

The company did not respond to our request for comment, but it agreed to pay the full $700 bill for the roof repairs.

"I feel very happy about it that you've done something for us," Nilda said.
