CONCORD, Calif. (KGO) -- Mercedes-Benz has picked a site in the East Bay to begin testing its self-driving cars.

The automaker will use the Concord Naval Weapons Station.

The base, which closed in 2007, has 19 miles of paved roads that the public can't access.

Mercedes says it will test both the vehicles and special traffic lights designed to communicate with them.
