WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- It's supposed to be hot this week in the Bay Area, a reminder that Labor Day doesn't always signal the end of summer.
This will be a good week to stay hydrated with temperatures expected to reach the triple digits for several days in a row in many East Bay cities.
Love it or hate it, residents are getting ready for the heat anyway they can.
"We got ice cream and stayed in the shade," said Castro Valley resident Erica Sanchez. "We didn't want to be in the sun."
It's the kind of weather that makes a water park an attractive option, except one in Danville isn't running and won't be anytime soon, thanks to the drought.
"Kids love it, they come from all over to be in the water, so maybe next summer," said Kimmie Stafford of Danville.
Firefighters will keep a close eye on the weather too, though heat without wind isn't as dangerous as when the two come together.
"The fuels are very dry. Moisture level in the fuels is considered extreme, critical, so when they do ignite, and we've seen rapid rates of spread and heat releases that are above normal," said Alameda County battalion chief John Walsh.
One Alameda County fire crew just finished a 10-day stint at the Rough Fire south of Fresno.
It's an increasingly common practice this summer as Bay Area Districts send wildland crews to far away incidents, an effort to supplement Cal Fire resources stretched to the brink.
