It was a welcome befitting a man who gave his all, who never gave in, but finally accepted that it was time to step aside.
In the California delegation, there were tears, cheers and certainly some disappointment.
But Sanders did his best to pull them together and throw his considerable weight behind Hillary Clinton. "Based on her ideals and leadership, Clinton must become the next president of the united states," he said.

Earlier, First lady Michelle Obama electrified the crowd with her call to rally around Clinton, and reject the Republican opponent, a man she never mentioned by name.

"Yes, Hillary Clinton, it's her campaign now, leaving here on Thursday, it's up to her and all of us to make sure that Donald Trump is not elected and she is elected," Rep. Barbara Lee said.
A presentation called Mothers of the Movement will be held on Day 2 of the Democratic National Convention.It involves the mothers of Trayvon Martin, and Michael Brown. Wanda Johnson, the mother of Oscar Grant is expected to participate as well.
