WALNUT CREEK, Calif. (KGO) -- A family doctor in Walnut Creek is accused of sexual battery against a female patient twice. The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office says Dr. Rajesh Kumar Singla posted bail early Tuesday morning.
Detectives executed a search warrant and arrested the doctor Monday at the John Muir Medical Center on Treat Boulevard in Walnut Creek.
Investigators say a female patient in her 40s reported 36-year-old Dr. Singla to authorities earlier this month.
After an investigation lasting several weeks detectives arrested the family medicine doctor without incident while he was at work.
"The charges are two counts of sexual battery, two counts of indecent exposure and one count of attempted oral copulation," said Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office Director of Public Affairs Jimmy Lee.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office Spokesperson says a woman reported the incidents following two separate visits.
In an emailed statement, John Muir Health writes: We are shocked and saddened by the arrest of Dr. Rajesh Singla...the care and safety of our patients is always our highest priority, and we are cooperating fully with the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department on their ongoing investigation.
A spokesperson for John Muir Health says Dr. Singla had been working for John Muir just under two years. Also that the medical center will be sending a letter to all his patients and have people available to answer any questions. He is currently on leave pending the outcome of the investigation and legal process.
"Given that he was a doctor for several years in this area as well as being part of the John Muir health network we believe that there may be additional victims," said Lee.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office says if anyone else had a situation with Singla that felt "a little awkward or uncomfortable" to contact them.
Singla was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. He posted 130,000 dollars bail Tuesday morning.
