California nonprofit teaches San Jose children about ways to save energy

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Fourth and fifth-graders at Robert F. Kennedy Elementary School in San Jose learned about ways to save energy during a fun and interactive assembly on Friday.

Energy Upgrade California, a nonprofit state initiative dedicated to educating Californians about energy usage, teamed up with the San Diego County Office of Education to help kids learn to become "Energy Champions," and the project made its way to San Jose.

Students learned about how their every day actions impact energy usage and the environmental health of California. The assembly, presented in a game show news program format, brought the science lessons to life.

After the assembly, students got to play Golden Bear Bingo in their classroom to reinforce the lessons, and the bingo winner were entered into a drawing for a chance to win a bicycle.
