San Jose high school gets thousands in donations from GoFundMe contest

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Technology in the classroom is now a given at many schools, but for some campuses many students still don't have access to computers at home.

GoFundMe, based in Menlo Park, wanted to do something about it and started a contest which resulted in one San Jose school receiving a staggering donation.

"We deliberately partnered with schools that were on needy side of things," said Kevin Madsen of GoFundme.

Overfelt High School was one of nine schools around the country selected by GoFundMe to compete for Chromebooks. Each school had to create a GoFundMe page and get the most shares. Overfelt High School not only got the most shares, but it also raised the most in community donations, $13,000.

As the big winners, GoFundMe will give the school 100 Chromebooks. On top of that, School Specialty Incorporated will donate Chromebook cart. The total in donations came out to $46,0000.
