EMERYVILLE, Calif. (KGO) -- Two East Bay cities may be increasing their minimum wages to more than $15 an hour.

Berkeley is considering paying workers $16 an hour by 2017. And Emeryville wants to do the same by 2019.

According to the San Francisco Business Times, both cities are crafting legislation to bump up the minimum wage within the next four years.

The move comes as a growing battle over income inequality is getting national attention.

Just last month, the city of Oakland raised its minimum wage to $12.25 an hour. Right now, the state's minimum wage is 9-dollars and will increase to $10 in 2016.
