Chicago offers waterfront site for George Lucas museum

Filmmaker George Lucas poses at Skywalker Ranch in San Rafael, Calif., Wednesday May 4, 2005.

The Windy City could blow San Francisco out of the running for George Lucas' planned art and film museum.

Chicago says it will offer a waterfront site near Soldier Field to Lucas so he can build a museum to house his billion dollar collection of Americana art and Hollywood memorabilia. But, Mayor Ed Lee says San Francisco is offering up a site near Piers 30-32. That's near the originally proposed Golden State Warriors arena, before they settled on a Mission Bay site.
