Boy raises thousands selling lemonade to pay for adoption

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (KGO) -- A third-grader in Missouri who spent this weekend selling lemonade to pay for his own adoption raised more than $7,000.

Nine-year-old Tristan Jacobson sold $1 lemonades Friday in front of the home in Springfield he shares with Donnie and Jimmy Davis, who have been Tristan's kinship guardians since he was 5.

He hopes the money will help with legal fees so his guardians can officially adopt him and become his parents.

Tristan says he already feels a connection to his foster mother.

"I know she's responsible taking care of me and I think she's gonna be a great mother," he said.

The lemonade sales brought in more than $7,100 for the 9-year-old raised over the weekend.

And an online fundraising page, "Tristan's Adoption Fund" on YouCaring.com, brought in more than $15,000.

Donnie says, "There's not enough words to say 'thank you' to everyone," and that she and her husband already consider Tristan their son.

She says the adoption is "more for reassurance for him, knowing that he has his forever family and he has our name."
