You can turn loved one's ashes into jewelry
Cremation jewelry is becoming a popular way to honor a loved one who passes

HOUSTON -- Cremation jewelry is becoming a popular way to honor a loved one who passes. The trend turns ashes into lockets, gems, and diamonds. Just like traditional jewelry, you can choose the color, carats, cut, and clarity.

People are spending hundreds, even thousands, on the lasting memorial.

Distinctive Life Cremations and Funerals sells the personal keepsakes at their Houston-area locations.

"We do see a lot of families that want something more personal to keep with them," said founder and funeral director Jeff Friedman.

Friedman has also created a memory of his dog, Bailey. Part of Bailey's ashes are in Friedman's money clip.

"He went with me to work, he went with me most everywhere I went so I wanted to make sure I could still do that," Friedman said.

Rosenberg hairstylist Candice Beck invested in a piece and now goes everywhere with her aunt Martha.

Martha died from cancer in August and was cremated. Now, a pendant necklace that Beck wears holds some of her aunt's ashes.

"Some people may have thought it was a little strange or weird," Beck said.

Beck says wearing the jewelry brings comfort and peace and has helped with the grieving process.

"It also makes me feel good knowing she's happy that she's with us. She was definitely a huge part of my life. We were very, very close," Beck said.

Beck is also ordering more jewelry in honor of her Aunt to give to the rest of her family for Christmas.
