Shelter in place lifted in Sunnyvale following hazmat investigation

SUNNYVALE, Calif. (KGO) -- Officials in Sunnyvale were notified that somebody had dumped some five gallon contains of unknown chemicals in a dumpster near a Montessori school.

The chemicals started to react with one another and started to smoke.

As a precaution, the school and surrounding businesses were asked to shelter in place.

Some streets were closed and the hazmat team was called in.

The chemicals stopped reacting and people are told they can go.

Parents have been called to pick up their kids.

Hazmat is still trying to determine what chemicals are .

Streets will remain closed until their investigation is over.
