Shelter-in-place order lifted after PG&E crews stop gas leak in Chinatown

SAN FRANCISCO -- San Francisco police have lifted a shelter-in-place order Thursday afternoon after PG&E stopped a gas leak in the city's Chinatown neighborhood, police and a PG&E spokesman said.

The first report of the incident in the 1000 block of Stockton Street came in at about 1:40 p.m., prompting authorities to ask people to shelter in place, according to the San Francisco Fire Department.

PG&E crews stopped the flow of gas at 2:15 p.m.

A third-party construction crew ruptured a half-inch gas line, PG&E spokesman Jason King.

No one was injured in the incident. San Francisco Municipal Railway service had to be rerouted around the area for a short period of time, King said.

King stressed the importance of calling 811 before digging to reduce the risk to health, life and safety.
